Barnwood Trust and Social Life have created this toolkit because we believe that more can be done to turn new housing developments into flourishing communities that support all residents to thrive.
We believe that all new housing developments should be socially sustainable – that they should include the community ingredients that enable communities to thrive and that boost individual wellbeing.
We believe that all the different stakeholders involved in developing new housing need to work together to achieve this and that in spite of reduced public spending, this is an achievable goal.
The toolkit is aimed at all the different people involved in new housing development in the county – from residents and local community organisations to Parishes and other tiers of local government, developers and housing associations, architects and planners.
The toolkit aims to give practical ideas and inspiration through case studies. These have been chosen to be relevant to Gloucestershire and its different communities.
